Origins and history of Alpha Cold Weather Jackets

Many of our winter jackets are based on the initial models that Alpha Industries made excusively for the US military in the 1960s and 1970s. In fact, we still offer exactly the same jackets in our winter collections nowadays. Like the N-2B, which was used primarily by air and ground forces of the Air Force in extremely cold climate zones.

Cool fact: From the beginning to the mid-1960s, the hood of the N-2B was equipped with real coyote fur. But to protect animals, the hood was then exclusively made with fake fur and this hasn´t changed until today.

A successor of the classic N-2B is of course the N-2B VF 59, which has a tighter fit and is therefore more in line with the style of the present time. The Polar Jacket SV, which also has a short cut and is made for extremely cold temperatures, can be traced back to this one too. Incidentally, our short winter jackets can be perfectly paired with the Squad Pant. Of course, for those of you who prefer parkas, we have plenty on the grid. The structure of these is the before mentioned N-3B, which can be recognized in almost every other parka silhouette if you look closely or read the name of the jacket. For example the N-3B Airborne, the PPS N-3B or the Explorer are all inspired by the original N-3B. Especially these three differ only in their color, material and patches. While the Airborne, like the classic N-3B, is made of Flight Nylon, the PPS in made of durable 2tone nylon and the Explorer is made of Oxford nylon.
